Fun Fact: Its not a moose...
...But you will still want this book! Johnny the Homicidal Maniac is one of the funniest and most thought provoking forms of dark humor Ive had the pleasure of reading. (Oh, just to let you know, Jhonen Vasquez isnt as messed or outcasted as some make him out to be.)The book collects all seven issues of the first, (and probably not the last) series of the JtHM comic books. These arent quite the Super Man or Simpsons type stuff, but dont get the impression its limited to the "Spooky People." Heck, it makes fun of them too. No one is safe from Jhonens wrath. Through the character of Johnny C, (or Nny) we get to see all the people we love to hate get caught, tortured, and killed. And do we cry? Nope! We laugh. Why not? For those who think its childish and disgusting, for all I know, youre probably right. But thats why this is in the form of a graphic novel, and not a text book. Ees fun!
But there is more than violence and laughter. Further on in the book, we find Nnys acknowledgement that he is beyond redemption and isnt happy with himself. It brings us deeper into Nnys character, and wonder if he is the victim of his own choices... Oh, by the way, Nny isnt goth. Its a black n white comic, but he really isnt pale.
Johnny and his colorful cast of voices arent the only ones who get the spotlight. Both Squee and Devi get supporting roles that lead to their own spin off comic books. (Highly recommended as well!) And then theres Happy Noodle Boy. From what Ive heard, he was created to tick someone off. Far from a masterpeice, but youll laugh anyway, wont you? Hee hee. Then theres Anne Gwish, the "trendy goth" hypocrite who likes to pretend shes deep.
The only things missing from this collection are the "Meanwhile" series, and Wobbly Headed Bob. They come packed in with the complement series, Squee! So if you like this one, check out Squee too. Now go, and buy this book!

Customer Review #2:
Hilarious, disturbing, and uniquely thought-provoking
JtHM is completely unlike any other comic I have ever read (and Ive read plenty). Jhonen Vasquezs excellent artwork is very conducive to his disturbing yet incredibly funny story. This is not another superhero-clone story. Instead, it is a unique story about Johnny C.(aka Johnny the Homicidal Maniac or Nny) and his quest for answers. Some of this quest involves the violent (but always funny) killing of people who he believes have done him wrong. True, they never really deserve it, but that is of little consequence to Johnny. I wont give away any story, but if you enjoy a little pondering with your low-brow black humor, youll be pleased. Some other characters include poor Todd (Squee), a kid who is traumatized quite regularly. He also has a series, which I recommend if you like this. And you also get to see Devi, a young woman who works at a bookstore and is an amatuer artist. She has the very bad luck to go out with Nny and the subsequent mayhem is more than a little funny. Jhonen makes all the characters very human, and gives the book some good depth. So, if you have a taste for dark humor (dont take the book seriously, its only a comic), give this a look. Im sure youll become a fan.

oh...the smell of homicide
this is a very funny book, though not all people would think it funny because its more.. uh darker...take this short quiz to see if youll like it maybe....choose the joke you think is funniest1. why did the chicken cross the road?....to get to the other side
OR
2. why did the chicken cross the road?....he didnt, he got ran over by a cement truck and went to hell
if you chose 1 go back to the peanuts books...
if you chose 2 this book is more than fit for you
besides the funniness in this book, the art is really good too...if you like this try LENORE and SQUEEs book of unspeakable horrors (which is a branch off of this book
