Life of Pi > Customer Review #1:
one of the best Ive read in a while

"Life of Pi" is a lovely, intelligent and unique novel - one of the best Ive read in a while.
Though I found Pis views on the lives of zoo animals a bit off (in fact they made me not WANT to like the book!), he is an incredibly endearing, smart character whom I could not help respecting and rooting for. He is a teenage boy - a practicing Christian, Muslim AND Hindu (all at the same time - much to the consternation of his family and various religious mentors)who escapes a sinking ship in a lifeboat shared by an orangutan, a hyena and a tiger.
Pi and the tiger survive for 227 amazing days in the lifeboat (during which they make an amazing botanical discovery worthy of Star-Trek in its Mr. Spock days) before landing on the coast of Mexico. There Pi provides the authorities two different explanations for his amazing survival.
Its up to you to decide which one is true...
Really worth reading, "Life of Pi" stands out brightly amongst the novels Ive read in the past few years, and Ill be recommending it for years to come.

Life of Pi > Customer Review #2:
A touching tale

A touching and amusing tale of Pi and Richard Parker, who happens to be a tiger, together, the only survivors of sinking ship. Pi is a boy who loves God and zoology, and he has to use his wits to survive being in a lifeboat with a tiger. Wonderful story.

So what?

Maybe I am thick, but this book certainly did not make me believe in God. Nor did it engage me enough to take another read to try and figure it out. For me, if a book needs a lot of figuring out, it better be a good read. I liked the way that the author slowly layered information about the adult Pi with the young Pis history. Once he was adrift, tho, I was lulled by the rocking of the lifeboat and searched for a story that was either there or not. When I was done, I just didnt care anymore.

All said, I must applaud the copy on the jacket which got me to pick up the book. That was as compelling it got.
