Customer Review #1:
good story
I also read this book because of the Booker award, and to be quite honest after the first few chapters I was ready to put it down because of Vernons habitual use of the "f" word which I was beginning to get a little irritated about. But for some reason, I kept reading and somewhere along the way it became a book that I didnt want to stop reading. And in the end, I can see how important it was to show how Vernon had a penchant for the "f" word. Like someone else mentioned, the style is very reminiscent of The Catcher In The Rye, and also reminded me a little of a book I read many many years ago, The Outsiders.

Elements of Past Faves
This reminds me a lot of three books: MY FRACTURED LIFE (Rikki Lee Travolta), CATCHER IN THE RYE (JD Salinger), and THE OUTSIDERS (SE Hinton). If you enjoy these books I recommend you may like this one too. I found it to be excellent.

Dark Humor of Unbalanced Youth
In the grand tradition of Mark Twains "Tom Sawyer," S.E. Hintons "The Outsiders," J.D. Salingers "Catcher in the Rye," and Rikki Lee Travoltas "My Fractured Life" D.B.C. Pierre has created a astonishing story based in scheme and off centered sensibilities of unbalanced youth. "Vernon God Little" raps us up in the world of fifteen year old Vernon Little of Maritiro, Texas in an adventure to rival the mishaps of Salingers "Catcher in the Rye" or Hintons "The Outsiders" but with the dark humor of Twains classic "Tom Sawyer" and Travoltas modern "My Fractured Life." The subtlety of the dark humor may be lost on some, but for those who enjoy such play in the dark recesses of the mind, "Vernon God Little" will be a dark delight.
